taking the plunge

I was sent a link to a Pop Up Craft Sale event to take place April 14th and 15th next door to the duchess bake shop on 124th street and 107th ave in Edmonton.  If I could figure out how to make a link to the facebook page, I would ( note how there isn’t one).  I can though, put a link to my web album.  Cross your fingers this works.

Been a Looonnnggg time…

It has been a while since I have posted anything here. I seem to have been keeping myself busy with life.  This past year has been full of surprises and not all of them good.  The first surprise was for my husband, I quit my horrible day job and decided to open a hair salon in my house ( hair is my first passion), the journey to open night was long and full of bumps and a couple of bruises, but by November 15th I had my business licence and clients booked, ready to experience my warm cozy space.

The second surprise was not so wonderful, my father was diagnosed with brain cancer with a little splatter of lung cancer as a side dish.  This is something I still am not quite able to speak/write about, so let us just say that about 4 months after I heard about his cancer, he died from complications due to pneumonia.  Not a pleasant surprise.

Upon his death, though, I did receive a new camera body, a Canon 40D.  A new lens came eventually, after it was sent to Toronto to get repaired.  I love both new items. I am loving the lens and am still learning how to use the D40.

Word of Mouth

I love the phrase "word of mouth".  It speaks of a personal level with communication.  To hear someone speak is to also watch them speak, so when one is speaking of a wonderful experience, their words and expressions show us a truth that texting or even typing can not.
I shot a wedding on 07/07/07 and right after the ceremony, I was asked to do another wedding that fall.  This year, I finally experienced what word of mouth can do.  I was asked to shoot the wedding of the daughter of the bride from my second wedding!  She was very excited even though she had not seen much of my work.
I now have two potential family sessions to do in the fall, I am giddy with excitement!

Getting Started, sort of ;)

I am a photographer, not a computer wiz and because of that I am struggling to get my photos online for all to see.  One just can’t upload photos though, it may seem all simple to do and theoretically it is…but to take advantage of all the options one must upload to a variety of sites in various sizes.  So I spend much of my time sorting, editing, saving big and then saving small, ooops, don't forget the watermark. I find that I have little time left for actually putting them online!  Today though, I may have finally achieved proper organization!  YAY!! Until I realize that now that I have created the folders and paths that I will use, I now need to yet again, sort and upload the photos to go in those folders. I am getting exhausted from all this work.  I hope in the end the hard work pays off.

Great Fall Day

I had a wonderful morning, taking casual pictures of a sweet friend’s wedding.  The bride was beautiful with a glow surrounding her.  I felt very lucky to be chosen to capture her special moment.

The simplicity was touching.  Their adoration was obvious.  Mother Nature gave her blessing on this union.

I posted a few more on my Picassa web album.

Beautiful Friend

I have a gorgeous friend who got married last year to a wonderful man.  She asked me to help her organize so I did not take her photos.  After all the drama with her photographer, N received a very nice photo album of her wedding.  I asked her if she would let me take some trash the dress pics and after a fun filled afternoon here is a sample. my unintentional trigger

i didn’t expect anything from this event. i was doing a favour for a friend, who was in a sad little situation.  a wedding, on a tropical island, planned 5000 miles elsewhere.  the resort photographer would not do beach photos after the wedding, so I volunteered my services, as long as someone had a camera i could borrow.  i don’t even remember the type of camera, but it was not a point and shoot, it would be my first experience with a digital camera too.  I was not to find out how good my photos were until I received the thank you note from the bride and groom, two months after the wedding.  Here is my favourite and the couples favourite too… it graced the front cover of the 5 X 7 card.
